“The smallest act of kindness is worth more than the grandest intention.” Oscar Wilde. Volunteering is among the most selfless things we can do. To volunteer means to freely offer or take part in doing something such as helping others in need. With that said, taking time out of our hectic daily schedules can be very compromising.
In late 2018 I had a conversation with my father about an idea I had about how to promote engagement to effectively connect students with volunteer opportunities. As I have always been one to give back to the community, the idea came about after having spoken with students and friends who didn’t know where to look for volunteer opportunities. They continued to tell me that with homework, extracurriculars and other responsibilities, taking the time to look for volunteer opportunities was a hassle.
The main mission to connecting youth to volunteer opportunities was to modernize and digitize the process by creating a website. Studenteers was successfully launched in April 2019, creating an easily accessible user friendly website with the end goal of connecting youth with organizations in need of volunteers. Furthermore, the 3 main goals of Studenteers is to provide youth with volunteer opportunities, connect them to opportunities in a simple and effective way in order to share their skills with the community.
Not only is volunteering good for the soul, the reality is 40 volunteer hours are needed in order to graduate from High School. If you are in need of volunteer opportunities head to Studenteers.com for exciting opportunities across the province of Ontario.
