Father Bressani Band Wins International Recognition

Father Bressani Band Wins International Recognition

Congratulations to the band from Father Bressani Catholic High School, in Woodbridge, for receiving a superior rating at the prestigious Rhythm International Music Festival in Boston.

Preparing for this outstanding performance was an extensive process, spanning a year and a half of planning and hard work. Once approved, the focus shifted to selecting the participants and choosing the appropriate music that would both challenge and interest the students. The band dedicated countless hours to rehearsals, ensuring they were ready to perform at the highest level.

One of the highlights of their preparation was the opportunity to rehearse at the iconic Boston Symphony Hall with Professor Joseph Foley from Rhode Island College. The students also benefited from the guidance of esteemed adjudicators such as Dr. David Healy from Boston College, Dr. Jeff Leonard from Berklee College of Music and Paul Pitts from Boston Latin. These experiences provided the students with invaluable feedback that helped elevate their performance.

The trip to Boston was also filled with both cultural and historical experiences. The students toured Fenway Park, participated in the Salem Witch Trial Haunted Walk and enjoyed a Duck Boat Tour.

Receiving a superior rating is a testament to the band’s exceptional talent and dedication. The Father Bressani music department is known for its inclusive and supportive environment where students from all backgrounds come together to create beautiful music.

My hope is that it has built a community where life lessons are made that my students can take with them in any aspect of their life.” said Antoine Buttigieg, music teacher at Father Bressani.

Participation in this event can be beneficial for the students’ post-secondary and job applications. Being part of an ensemble demonstrates commitment, teamwork and a strong work ethic, all qualities that are highly valued by educational institutions and employers alike.

Looking to the future, the Father Bressani band has exciting plans for 2024-25. This includes performances at homecoming, academic awards ceremonies, Remembrance Day events and various community parades. They also plan to participate in more music festivals, concerts and workshops, continuing to showcase the importance of music education.

The success at the Rhythm International Music Festival has set a high standard for the Father Bressani band. Their dedication to music education and their passion for performance ensure that they will continue to inspire and excel in the years to come.
