During the Covid-19 pandemic, a group of four ambitious students established Father Bressani’s first ever Sick Kids Committee. The committee believes that this initiative will result in a movement to improve the lives of the children staying at Sick Kids, and provide an opportunity for students at home to engage with others. The burdens of Covid-19 have propelled numerous obstacles towards staff, students, and especially children and front line staff members at Sick Kids Hospital. The committee is dedicated to pursuing their Catholic vocation to help those suffering through hardships in the community by radiating positivity. Thus, online videos, guest speakers, positive affirmations – via Google Jamboard – sent out to Sick Kids Hospital, coloured shirt and symbolism day is soon to come. Because, “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16) In this time of adversity, the Sick Kids Committee represents the Father Bressani community’s awareness, consideration, sympathy and regards to the troubling struggles that children, families, students and staff are facing.
Grade twelve student Alessia Lafarciola, and Grade 10 students, Erica Conicella, Isabella Gonzalez and Maya Baloula have been inspired by the various stories recounted by the courageous patients of Sick Kids Hospital. Our goal is to foster compassion and promote an understanding of the importance of health. They hope to encourage our staff and students to join them, virtually via instagram – @fbsickkidscommittee where the team is devoted to spreading awareness, fun interactive videos, games and opportunities to get involved. In addition, the team centralizes over the quote, “Every time you do a good deed you shine the light a little farther into the dark. And the thing is, when you’re gone that light is going to keep shining on, pushing the shadows back.” ― charles de lint. “As a writer of fantasy fiction, Charles manages to cover deep feelings about the modern world, namely human potential. He strongly believes in selfless acts of kindness. Likewise, the Sick Kids Committee believes in selfless acts of kindness. Change starts with one person, and that person can be you, so choose to do your “bit” and lend a helping hand.” (@fbsickkidscommittee). The group states, “We each share the wonderful gifts which God has individually blessed us with, so it’s our time to work together, spread positivity to produce transformation for the better.”
